Temporary accommodation

We are working with Pulborough Parish Council towards having a purpose built shed on council owned land. Whilst this process is ongoing, we are in temporary accommodation in a room above a double garage which belongs to one of our members. Whilst this has allowed us to properly launch as a “shed,” it does come with a few limitations. In particular:
-
The “Shed” can only be accessed by a stairway. Unfortunately there is no scope for disabled access.
-
There are no toilet facilities. There is an adjacent field which is hidden from view.
-
There is limited parking, and we ask that people park in the vicinity of Cousins Way and take the short walk across the playing field to access the Shed. Anyone with limited mobility is very welcome to park on the driveway outside the shed.
-
We have had to impose a “maximum of 12 Shedders" rule for safety purposes.
Membership

The first couple of visits are free. See what you think. If you decide that Shedding is for you, then we ask that you become a member. Our membership year runs from January to December. We ask for a minimum donation of £30 per year for membership. The reason we suggest a donation as opposed to a fixed fee is that we are registered as a charity and can therefore reclaim 25% of the donation under the Gift Aid scheme.
We also ask for a minimum donation of £2 per session to cover costs for tea coffee and materials which are used.

Useful links

We are pleased to be affiliated to the UK Men’s sheds Association. They have given us assistance while setting up the Pulborough Shed, and their website (https://menssheds.org.uk/) has an abundance of useful information. UKMSA produce a monthly electronic publication called Shoulder to Shoulder. (https://menssheds.org.uk/newsletter-archive/)
This is a really useful resource for finding out what is happening around the country in the Shedding environment. It also gives links to many support agencies.
Whilst many Shedders simply want to enjoy good company, offer or receive practical help and work on projects, a major aim of the Men’s Shed movement is to make it easier for anyone to talk about issues which may be affecting them. No Shedders claim to offer professional help, but a one to one chat with a fellow Shedder often helps. Professional help can be found through MIND (https://www.mind.org.uk/)
